A little self-reflection is important when choosing a self-guided experience. You are electing to head out independently on waterways where weather and conditions can change, while navigating using maps and directions provided.
Ask yourself whether you are generally comfortable following maps, navigating independently, paddling confidently for the required duration, and solving minor problems on the water if needed.
If you are unsure, or would prefer additional support and local guidance, you may be better suited to our Guided Stingrays & Everglades Kayak Tour.
No formal experience is required, however self-guided kayaking is best suited to confident paddlers who are comfortable navigating independently on the water.
Yes. We provide clear instructions and guidance on the best routes to take, and our team will make sure you feel confident before heading out.
You’ll also receive an easy-to-follow map and can use your phone to access more detailed directions and, in many cases depending on your device, live GPS positioning on the map throughout your paddle.
A basic level of fitness is recommended. The waterways are generally calm and well suited to a relaxed paddling experience.
Our kayaks are very stable and all guests are provided with life jackets. Much of the area explored on the tour is relatively shallow, often around waist deep.
However, if you are a very weak swimmer or uncomfortable around water, we would generally recommend considering a guided tour for additional support and assistance on the water.
The Noosa Everglades are far more than just a single river or kayaking location. They form part of a vast interconnected landscape of waterways, wetlands, forests, beaches, lakes, rainforest, dunes, hinterland, and coastal ecosystems that make up the UNESCO-listed Noosa Biosphere Reserve.
The broader Noosa Everglades system stretches across approximately 85,000 hectares of waterways and catchment landscapes, linking remote upper river systems through to Lake Cootharaba, Lake Weyba, the Noosa River, coastal wetlands, beaches, and the Pacific Ocean.
What makes the region so unique is the incredible variety packed into a relatively small area. Within a single day you can move through subtropical rainforest, mirror-like waterways, paperbark wetlands, ancient dune systems, rolling farmland, mountain lookouts, coastal estuaries, and ocean beaches, all connected as part of the same internationally recognised biosphere landscape.

Understanding the Noosa Everglades System
The Noosa Everglades
No. Those locations are in the more remote northern section of the Noosa Everglades system and are typically better suited to longer and more demanding paddling adventures.
Our tours explore the more easily accessible southern waterways of the Everglades system, offering a relaxed and scenic experience much closer to Noosa.
Tours may continue in light rain, and routes may be adjusted to suit wind and weather conditions. However, severe weather may require tours to be rescheduled for safety reasons.
Please note that self-guided experiences may be cancelled in stronger wind conditions. In some situations, there may be the option to upgrade to a guided tour instead, as our guides have access to a wider range of more wind-protected routes and waterways.
Please see our Booking Terms and Conditions for more information.
We understand that things do not always go to plan, however self-guided experiences require riders and paddlers to be reasonably self-sufficient and confident navigating independently.
Assistance or recovery is not included in the tour price. If support is available, call-out costs can be several hundred dollars and wait times may be many hours depending on location and conditions.
If you are not confident following maps, navigating independently, or completing the journey comfortably under your own ability, we strongly recommend booking a guided tour instead.
In any genuine emergency, always call 000.
Yes. There is typically an opportunity to swim during the experience, although it is completely optional.
Swimming may be discouraged after rainfall or when water clarity is reduced.
Yes. Guests must arrive ready for departure at the scheduled start time.
Your safety briefing is conducted by the guide before they depart on the guided tour, and we are unable to send guests out without completing this process. If you arrive late and miss the briefing, you may unfortunately miss your tour and reschedules may not be available.
