Yes, absolutely. The beach used on this tour is legally accessible for vehicles and bikes and is, fun fact, actually a gazetted road managed by Queensland Parks and Wildlife.
It also forms part of one of the main access routes to Rainbow Beach and K’gari (Fraser Island).
A self-guided tour gives you the same equipment and route as our guided experiences, but with the freedom to explore independently at your own pace.
We provide turn-by-turn GPS navigation loaded onto your phone, along with detailed route information and local guidance to help you complete the ride confidently and at your own speed.
GPS route maps with turn-by-turn directions will be loaded onto your phone before departure. Please ensure your phone is fully charged prior to the tour.
Basic confidence with navigation is recommended. We provide clear turn-by-turn GPS navigation loaded onto your phone to guide you throughout the route.
As these are self-guided experiences, riders must carry a fully charged phone and be comfortable navigating independently throughout the ride.
Yes. You are free to leave, modify, shorten, or rejoin the suggested routes at your own discretion. These are self-guided rides, and ultimately the route choices you make during the day are entirely up to you.
We provide recommended routes, transport, navigation support, local knowledge, and bike hire where applicable, however riders remain responsible for their own navigation, decision-making, and route selection throughout the ride.
A little riding experience is recommended. Fat bikes are stable, comfortable, and surprisingly easy to ride on firm sand.
Yes. The ride follows mostly sealed paths and is designed to be relaxed and accessible for riders with a basic level of cycling confidence. Riders should still feel comfortable controlling a bike on descents and around other path users.
If you are very unsteady or lack confidence riding a bike, this tour may not be the best fit. If you are unsure, please contact us and we can help recommend the most suitable experience for you.
The ride uses a mixture of bike paths and cycle lanes to reach the beach, followed by riding on firm sand along the coastline.
The route is predominantly flat with only limited hills.
No. The beaches visited during the tour are unpatrolled and we strongly advise against swimming.
A small ferry fee of a couple of dollars is payable directly to the ferry operator on arrival.
No booking is required, with the ferry typically running every 5–10 minutes.
You can choose how far you would like to ride based on your pace, fitness, and preferred experience. However, riders should remain mindful of battery capacity throughout the ride.
Fat bike hire, GPS navigation on your phone, route guidance, and local recommendations are included.
Please note that the small ferry fee is not included and is payable directly to the ferry operator on arrival.
Please bring comfortable clothing, enclosed shoes, water, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a fully charged phone.
These are self-guided rides and riders are expected to be reasonably self-sufficient. We provide basic tools to help manage common issues such as flat tyres, and riders should be comfortable handling simple repairs independently.
Please note that we do not offer a dedicated roadside support service. If assistance is available, significant call-out fees may apply and wait times can be several hours depending on location and availability. In some remote areas, assistance may not be possible at all.
If you are unsure about managing basic mechanical issues, we recommend considering a guided experience or riding with someone more experienced.
Yes. When used sensibly, the bikes will comfortably complete the route, flat battaries are almost unheard of on this route
Battery range depends on a number of factors including assist mode selection, rider weight, riding style, terrain, gear selection, and how much effort the rider contributes throughout the ride.
Yes. Although these are self-guided experiences, beach access is tide dependent and start times are scheduled around the safest and most suitable beach riding conditions.
These rides are completed at your own pace, allowing flexibility for stops, sightseeing, food breaks, and ride speed throughout the day. However, all riders must return to our Noosa workshop by 4:00pm
Tour times are scheduled around tide conditions to ensure suitable and safe beach riding conditions. Typically only one departure time per day will be available, and during some periods there may be limited or no availability on certain dates.
We recommend checking alternative dates or times, or contact us to discuss possible options.
