Conservation Begins with Connection

At By Earth & Ocean, we believe the most powerful conservation tool isn’t a regulation or a sign, it’s a memorable experience in nature.

People protect what they value, and they value what they have had the opportunity to experience. Our role isn’t simply to take guests kayaking or riding a bike or and e-bike. It’s to help them form a genuine connection with the extraordinary landscapes of the Noosa region through both experience and education, so they leave with a greater appreciation for the natural world and a desire to help protect it.

That philosophy influences every decision we make.

Experiencing Nature Without Disturbing It

Every By Earth & Ocean experience is designed to have as little environmental impact as possible while creating meaningful encounters with nature.

Our guided and self-guided kayak tours on Lake Weyba allow guests to quietly explore one of Noosa’s most significant wetland systems. Without engines, noise or emissions, kayaks allow visitors to observe wildlife behaving naturally. Stingrays continue feeding in the shallows, birdlife remains undisturbed, and guests experience the peaceful sounds of the environment rather than machinery.

Our guided e-bike experiences through Tewantin National Park, the Noosa Trail Network and the Noosa Biosphere Reserve similarly provide low-impact access to spectacular natural landscapes. Electric bikes allow more people to enjoy these environments regardless of age or fitness while utilising existing authorised trails rather than requiring new infrastructure or disturbing sensitive habitats.

Rather than competing with nature, our tours allow it to take centre stage.

Small Groups, Bigger Connections

We intentionally keep our tours small.

Small groups reduce environmental pressure, create less noise, minimise congestion on trails and waterways, and allow wildlife to behave more naturally.

Just as importantly, they create space for curiosity.

Guests have time to ask questions, notice wildlife, stop to appreciate a view or simply enjoy moments of silence that are becoming increasingly rare in modern tourism.

These moments are often what people remember long after the tour has finished.

Dispersing Visitors Across Nature, Not Concentrating Them

Sustainable tourism isn’t just about how many people visit an area—it’s also about where they go.

Rather than concentrating guests into a handful of busy locations, our experiences help disperse visitors across a broader range of authorised recreation areas. From the tranquil waterways of Lake Weyba to the extensive trail network of Tewantin National Park and the Noosa Biosphere Reserve, we encourage exploration beyond the region’s most heavily visited sites.

This helps reduce pressure on popular locations while introducing guests to equally spectacular natural areas they may never have discovered on their own.

By thoughtfully distributing visitation, we help support a more balanced and sustainable tourism model that benefits both the environment and the visitor experience.

Making Nature Accessible to More People

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience nature, regardless of their previous experience or confidence level.

Many of our guests have never paddled a kayak or ridden an e-bike before.

Our guided experiences are specifically designed to remove those barriers. We provide quality equipment, personalised instruction, carefully selected routes and supportive guides who adapt the experience to each group’s abilities.

Our e-bikes make longer rides and hilly terrain achievable for people who may not otherwise consider cycling, while our stable kayaks provide a comfortable introduction to paddling in sheltered waterways.

By making these experiences more accessible, we enable more people to build meaningful connections with nature—connections that may never have occurred if adventure tourism remained only for the experienced or highly fit.

Conservation benefits when more people feel welcome in nature and develop a personal appreciation for the places they visit.

Responsible Tourism Means Knowing When Not to Operate

Protecting the environment is more important than running another tour.

Environmental conditions constantly change, and we continually assess weather, water levels, trail conditions and other factors before operating.

If conditions could result in unacceptable environmental impacts or diminish the quality of the experience, we simply don’t run the tour.

Likewise, all of our experiences operate only within approved areas where recreation is permitted. We work closely within the requirements of land managers and protected area authorities, ensuring we use authorised access points, existing trail networks and designated waterways rather than creating new impacts on sensitive environments.

Our goal is always to work with nature—not against it.

Sustainability Extends Beyond the Tour

Protecting the environment isn’t limited to where we operate—it also influences how we operate.

Where consumable products are required, we prioritise biodegradable, compostable or recyclable alternatives wherever practical, helping reduce unnecessary waste entering landfill or the natural environment.

For our water-based experiences, we encourage guests to use reef-safe, mineral-based sunscreen and make it available before tours. Unlike many conventional sunscreens, mineral formulations containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide create a physical barrier on the skin rather than dissolving into the water. They avoid many of the chemical UV filters that have been linked to impacts on aquatic ecosystems, helping minimise what enters the waterways every time guests paddle, swim or wash their hands.

These may seem like small decisions individually, but together they reflect our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint wherever possible.

Creating Future Custodians

Every guest who joins a By Earth & Ocean experience becomes an ambassador for the places they’ve explored.

When someone quietly watches stingrays feeding beneath their kayak on Lake Weyba, rides through towering forests in Tewantin National Park or discovers the remarkable biodiversity of the Noosa Biosphere Reserve, they gain something far more valuable than a great holiday photo.

They develop a personal connection.

That connection changes how people think about conservation.

People who have experienced these places firsthand are more likely to respect them, talk about them, advocate for them and support efforts to protect them for future generations.

For us, that is the true purpose of sustainable tourism.

Our mission isn’t simply to leave no trace.

It’s to inspire people to care.

When people connect with nature, they become far more likely to protect it.
