Description
We believe in development through fun. Our skills clinics, led by our professional & experienced instructors are an enjoyable, low pressure way for children of all ages and skills to take their mountain bike riding to the next level.
Through a combination of demonstrations, games, challenges and of course heaps of riding time we aim to find fun & interesting ways of improving everyone’s riding no matter their ability.
All of our programs are suitable for both boys & girls. These programs cater for beginner -advanced MTB riders as we will split into teams based on riding abilities (&friends!) to make sure everyone can ride at a level they are comfortable with and enjoy.
Participants will need to be relatively confident bike riders, but can be reasonably new to mountain biking. Bikes can also be rented from us for the program if you require one.
Age requirements
While there is not a specific age requirement, this program will appeal to riders aged 5-17 years of age but other ages are certainly welcomed. Please contact us to discuss prior to booking.
Please Note: These programs are not designed for parents to follow along with (even at a distance). If you feel you child still requires direct parental support or supervision, we would respectfully suggest that your child is not yet ready for these programs and would request that you do not book.
Skill Requirements
This is a Beginner – Advanced Program but all riders must at least be capable of:
- Confidently riding a bike on smooth dirt surfaces.
- Stopping a bike using hand brakes without placing feet on the ground
This program runs in multiple groups, so your child will be allocated to a group and coach appropriate for their skill level.

Bike and Equipment Requirements
The bike must be of a standard that doesn’t represent an unreasonable safety risk when riding on mountain bike trails. A suitable bike will have:
- Functional hand brakes for both the front AND rear wheels (No foot brakes permitted)
- Correctly adjusted and well maintained gears (Bike must have gears)
- Tires with a reasonable amount of tread
- 20″ wheels or greater (bikes with smaller wheels are highly unlikely to be suitable)
- Well maintained and serviced
The following protective equipment is compulsory for this program:
- A correctly fitting Australian Standards approved helmet – We strongly suggest a full face helmet
- Enclosed footwear – We suggest MTB specific footwear
- Water AND a method of carrying it
- A spare tube that is suitable for your bike
We would also strongly recommend the following protective equipment:
- Full face helmet
- Knee and elbow pads
- Full finger gloves
While bikes do not have to be super high end, they must be well maintained and in good working order. All programs come with free bike safety checks, conducted by Bike On which also includes free basic adjustments (excludes parts and labour costs to fit). We would strongly encourage parents to take advantage of this offer.
Our friends at Venture Cycles offers all Bike On participants 10% of their range of bike helmets… and we can’t over emphasis the importance of a well fitted, good quality helmet!
Optional Bike Hire
- Standard MTB $60
- Dual Suspension $100
Price is for both days and includes delivery to program and helmet (for 1-day programs the prices will be half). Please indicate in the booking notes if you require a bike and we will contact you to arrange.
Please note: All participants must be in a bike with gears and HAND brakes, bikes with foot operated brakes are not permitted
Wet Weather & Cancellations
The event will run in wet weather unless it presents a safety issue so be prepared with appropriate wet weather gear if the forecast looks wet. If we cancel the event due to the forecast a full refund will be provided. There are no refunds if participants choose not to ride due to the forecast, being tired or any other reason, however we may, at our discretion be able to arrange a credit for a future session.
Make an Optional Trail Care Contribution
Bike On staff participate in significant trail maintenance, especially at Gympie and Wooroi and we also pay land mangers between $2-$3 per rider per session (however unfortunately land managers don’t often use this for trail maintenance).
If you would like to contribute to the maintenance of the trails, there will be the option to add a small, completely voluntary one-off or ongoing contribution to your booking that will either be donated directly to local bike clubs or used directly by Bike On to deliver trail maintenance programs. If you would like to add this to your purchase you will find it added to your cart.
